Come See Us Today!
Did you ever wonder why some shops use a certain oil and others use a different brand? Shouldn’t all oils be the same if they are the same weight and type? Why did the quick lube tell me their oil is OK for all engines? Is it OK to use in my engine?
We love to educate everyone who wants to know about their vehicle and given the major changes with engines and engine oil, it’s a hot topic.
We have lots of discussions about engine oils and mileage intervals (see our page “5,000 mile, 6 Month Full Synthetic Oil Changes “What’s In It for Me”)!
Vehicle manufacturers spend millions of dollars designing engines for their vehicles. They have very specific requirements in regards to the oils that they CERTIFY.
IF AN OIL IS “CERTIFIED FOR USE IN”, IT MEANS THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURER HAS TESTED THE OIL AND THEY CERTIFY THAT IT HAS ALL THE NEEDED PROTECTION PROPERTIES. Using a certified oil WILL NOT VOID your warranty. This costs $ to get certified.
We Only Use Certified Engine Oils! Period!
Some oil manufacturers have decided that they do not want to pay for the certification so they basically say “our oil should be OK for this particular application” and put it on their “Suitable for” or “recommended for” list. Now, this particular oil may or may not meet the needs of the engine. WE HAVE NO WAY TO TELL! Using a suitable for/recommend for vs a certified oil may put your vehicles warranty in jeopardy. There is a time and place for non-certified oils, but ABSOLUTELY NOT DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. If you are thinking about saving a few bucks on a cheap oil change, do yourself a favor and get the right stuff. Your car will thank you!
